Epidemiologic characteristics and double-buffered strategy for patients in orthopedic surgery during the novel coronavirus outbreak: Wuhan’s experience

Abstract Background The purpose of this article is to summarize the epidemiologic characteristics and double-buffered strategy for patients in orthopedic surgery during COVID-19 outbreak Wuhan, China, based on our own experience hospital. Methods A retrospective comparative study was performed identify all inpatients at clinic from February 17 April 20, 2020 (epidemic group), 2019 (control group). Epidemiologic characteristics, screening effect, perioperative complications, nosocomial infection were analyzed. Results In epidemic group, 82 identified, a decrease by 76.0% than 342 same period 2019. Patients group (54.6 ± 20.2 years) older those control (49.6 22.5 years). For proportion rates traumatic factures (69.5%) low-energy injuries (86.0%) higher that respectively (35.4% 37.2%). preoperative waiting time (7.0 2.6 days) longer (4.5 2.1 days). postoperative complication rate (12.2%) (3.5%). No staff with noted group. Conclusion During showed unique epidemiological characteristics. could effectively avoid infections among medical patients. Doctors should fully evaluate risks complications.
